CHAPLAIN

Piara Waters Senior High School engages YouthCARE to provide a school Chaplain. The Chaplain is available to provide positive support, life skills and leadership to the students and their families. The aim is to create and support a positive school culture through pastoral care and involvement in school initiatives.

The Chaplain works as part of the Student Wellbeing team - contributing to improving student wellbeing but does not hold a disciplinary role. They work under the YouthCARE ethics, and in conjunction with Department of Education policies and procedures. A key responsibility of the school Chaplain is to coordinate small group programs for targeted groups.

The school Chaplain at Piara Waters Senior High School is John Ryder.

Some programs facilitated by the school Chaplain include:

  • • Seasons for Growth (grief and loss)

  • • Growing Good Blokes (mateship, respect, belonging and student engagement)

  • • DRUMBEAT (self-regulation and relationship development through music)

The chaplaincy service is confidential and can be accessed by students without prior permission from staff.  Parent/guardian consent is required prior to sessions being arranged.
