Student Wellbeing

Piara Waters Senior High School aims to provide our students and staff with an environment that is welcoming, supportive and safe. Through working in partnership with parents and the broader school community, we strive to assist students in achieving the best possible educational and developmental outcomes – in particular, a strong sense of self worth, coupled with a strong sense of social responsibility.

School Day Session, Start and Finish Times

Piara Waters Senior High School follows a five-session structure day throughout the school week. Each session is one-hour (60 minutes) in length to provide ample time for instruction.  Home Group is a pastoral care session taking 20 minutes each day.

Please note that gates open 10 minutes before the start of the day at 8:30 am.

Staff at Piara Waters Senior High School strive to:

  • 1. Create a culture of excellence through high quality teaching and developing high quality positive relationships.

  • 2. Hold students accountable for their behaviour by implementing fair and logical consequence for inappropriate behaviour and a positive psychology paradigm to create a culture of positivity.

  • 3. Provide a wellbeing framework to assist students who are experiencing social, emotional, academic or behavioural issues – School Psychologist, Chaplain, Nurse and External Agencies.

  • 4. Take opportunities to build positive student relationships and fostering positive student behaviour.

  • 5. Understand that a high level of communication with parents/guardians and the wider community is paramount to student achievement. (i.e a culture of ‘no surprises’).

  • 6. Utilise classroom management and positive behaviour strategies when managing issues, ensuring they are consultative, educative, restorative, and reflective.
